Recognizing the Voice of God
In this week’s reading (John 10:1-19), Jesus tells listeners that his sheep listen to his voice and not to the voice of strangers.
How do we know what the voice of God revealed in Jesus sounds like?
Have you ever heard the voice of God? If so, how did you know it was actually God? Has there ever been a time that you thought you heard the voice of God, but later wondered if you were mistaken?
Lastly, we know that there are many voices today claiming to speak for God, and yet the voices we hear are incompatible with one another. How do we discern which voices we can trust and which ones, in the words of Jesus, are the voices of wolves that “snatch” and “scatter”?
I look forward to hearing and learning from you as we explore together these and other questions that are urgently important in this unique moment in history.
As part of your preparation for our discussion, watch the video below that, I believe, offers some clues as to why we hear what we hear AND what prevents us from hearing what we may need to hear.
