Part 2: What the Cross Reveals About the Nature of God (and Us!)

As promised, we will pick up where we left off last week. During our previous discussion we addressed the following questions:

Why was Jesus sentenced to capital punishment? Who wanted him to die? Why? What does the crucifixion of Jesus say about the nature of God? What does it reveal about God’s justice? What does it reveal about God’s love? In what way(s) are we “saved” by the crucifixion of Jesus? Why does Jesus cry out “My God, my God why have you forsaken me'?” (Matthew 27:46, Psalm 22)

In preparation for this week’s discussion, read Acts 2:1a, 20-22. How does Peter, as understood by Luke (author of Acts), interpret the crucifixion of Jesus? If Jesus was “handed over by the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, does that mean God willed the crucifixion of Jesus? If so, why does Peter say “you crucified and killed” this man (Jesus)?

Pun intended, but not for the sake of humor . . .

When it comes to Christian faith (and the meaning of our very existence), nothing gets us closer to the crux of the matter more than the questions we are addressing this week. I am grateful beyond words to be asking them with you!
