Church Matters
If you took the trouble to open the email and click on the link that took you to this page where you could information about this week’s Bible study and discussion, at least to some degree, church matters to you. You are not among hundreds of thousands who have left churches in recent years. Every year, there are fewer and fewer people who still believe that church matters in meaningful and significant ways. What about church in general and Community Church in particular do you find meaningful and significant?
This week we will reflect together on Ephesians 2:14-20 and Ephesians 3:14-21. What insights do you see in these readings about the nature and purpose church(es)? Peace, reconciliation, citizenship, and the household and family of God are all characteristic of what it means to be church. Are the characteristics identified in these readings of central concern, or are they more peripheral? Are there other, more central characteristics and purposes that are identified elsewhere — in other parts of the Bible?
I look forward to discussing these and other questions at this crucial time in the history of the Church and world.
